Match Report: Berrylands v Surbiton 7s

Saturday 5th October: 4-0 win

With last week still fresh in their minds, Berries stepped out to take on Surbiton 7s. We started brightly, taking the game to Surbiton – we soon had our passing rhythm going and were closing down on Surbiton as soon as they got the ball.

Early attacks from Berries looked promising but we couldn’t find the final touch. Grace broke the deadlock slotting home a loose ball off the keeper’s pads.

Berries lead was soon doubled by a tap in for Phoebe, created by some great passing up the pitch. Phoebe had another chance to extend Berries lead but was thwarted by the Surbiton keeper in a 1v1. Berries had to be careful as Surbiton began to look dangerous on the break but they could not get past our new keeper Linda.

Surbiton no 3 was a constant threat but Berries looked awesome going forward with all the halves (Nina, Abbie and Helen R) and forwards (Phoebe, Emma, Grace, Nikki, Vicky) combining well, running off the ball and finding each other with some great passing.Berries closed out the half to go into the break 2-0 up.

Surbiton brought in reinforcements for the second half and a slight rearrangement in formation saw them making more of the ball. However, Berries seemed comfortable and in control. Berries put the game beyond the reach of Surbiton with two further goals. A great lob over the prone keeper by Emma and the move of the game for Grace’s second.

The ball moved quickly from backs (Alison, Helena and Teresa just to complete the team list) to halfs. A loose ball played into Nicky, who from the left side, picks out Emma on the right, Emma brings into the D and squares it for Grace to slot home – text book play.

Final score: 4-0 win
