Match Report: Berrylands v Bank of England

Saturday 8th February: 6-2 win

What a Difference a Keeper Makes!
Berries took on Bank of England for their return fixture of the season.  The good news was that Bank did not have their goalkeeper from the first game, the bad news it was cold, wet and windy weather!

Opting to play against the wind in the first half Berries took the ball to the opposition looking to get a quick score on the board.  They were met with some fierce resistance and had to be careful as Bank looked to use the counter attack.  Good work from the Bank defence and stand in goalie as well as Berries defence and keeper kept the score at 0-0 for the first 20 mins.

Berries kept the pressure on and from a long corner got the break through with a mazy run by Nina leading to a Bank defender playing football in the D before back healing the ball into the goal to avoid the Penalty Flick and possible card.  Berries pressed again and it was Grace that next slotted the ball in the net after Bank failed to get hold of the loose ball.  The game opened up even more as Bank looked to get back into the game and Berries at times were struggling to contain their attacks.

Second half and Bank struck their first goal to put them back in the game.  Berries rallied and increased the pressure on Bank with a series of short corners from which Nikki scored.  Again lots of space beginning to appear as Bank tried again to counter attack.  A second goal and they were back in it.

3 delightful goals from Phoebe, running from the left to coolly plant the ball in the back of the net out of the reach of the keeper put the game firmly out of  Bank’s reach.

A well deserved victory for Berries who showed their ability to move the ball quickly to each other or into space putting the oppo under pressure but also to close down and hassle the oppo into mistakes.

Final score: 6-2
